What is the Wildcats Wellness Center (WWC)?

A primary care facility (similar to your doctor's office) that serves youth ages 10-21 and their children.  The WWC will be located in the Albion High School but will service all youth in the Albion and surrounding community.  The WWC will be staffed by a Nurse Practitioner and a Medical Assistant, and partnerships with other local health care providers have been established to provide specialized care and services - i.e. OB/GYN, mental health screening and counseling, and behavioral health screening.

 

When will the WWC provide services?

The WWC provides year-round services and is currently open for business. 

The hours of operation are as follows:

Monday: 8:00am - 3:00pm
Tuesday: 8:00am - 3:00pm
Wednesday: 9:00am - 5:00pm
Thursday 8:00am - 3:00pm
Friday: 8:00am - 3:00pm

 

What services will be provided?  What services will NOT be provided?

Services Provided:

  • Physical exams for school, sports, and camp.
  • Treatment for acute & chronic, illness & injuries
  • Immunizations
  • Basic laboratory services and tests
  • Prescriptions for medication necessary for treatment
  • Individual, group, family, and community education
  • Referrals for specialty services (mental/behavioral health, dental, and vision services)
  • *Gynecological services
  • *Pregnancy testing and referrals
  • *Sexually transmitted disease screenings, treatment, and couseling
  • *HIV screening and referrals
  • *Physical/sexual abuse counseling and referrals
  • *Crisis Intervention
  • *Substance abuse education, counseling and referrals
  • *Mental health and psycho-social assessment, counseling, and referrals

(*) Current Michigan Law allows for confidential services to minors in these areas without parental consent.

 

Services NOT Provided:

  • Ongoing disbursal of prescription medications
  • Disbursal of items for minor ailments (band-aids, ice packs, asprin, etc.)
  • Care for clients outside of the target population (school staff/faculty)- except in the case of an emergency
  • Care for clients outside the WWC - except in the case of an emergency
  • No birth control pills or devices are sispensed or prescribed
  • No abortion counseling, referrals or services provided

How will students and other youth access the center?

Students of Albion High School will enter the WWC through the interior entrance after reporting to the main office and acquiring a pass.  All other WWC clients will access the center thought the exterior entrance, Clients, students and non-students, can access the center by making an appointment, or by walk-in if the provider's schedule permits.

 

What is the criteria for using the WWC?

The only criteria for services is that the client be within the age requirements of 10-21, and have a signed Parental Consent form on file with the WWC when applicable (under the age of 18).  Insurance coverage is NOT a barrier to care.  Clients will be serviced through the WWC regardless of the ability, or lack thereof, to pay for services.
