City Council Study Session

CALL TO ORDER

Mayor William M. Wheaton opened the study session at 7:37 p.m.

ROLL CALL

Ron Gant (1), Betty Branche (2), Ken Waito (3), Cheryl Krause (5), George Strander (6) and Mayor William M. Wheaton.  Andy Zblewski (4) was absent.

            Administration: Mike Herman, City Manager; Eric Miller, Chief of Public Safety;  Kerry Helmick, Finance Director/City Clerk/City Treasurer and Chuck Robison, City Attorney.

ITEMS FOR INDIVIDUAL DISCUSSION

A.         Sidewalk Repair/Replacement Program.

City Manager Herman gave some introductory remarks and then updated Council regarding various implementation issues relevant to special assessment program costs being placed on property tax bills.

Discussion ensued with comments being received from Councilmembers Waito, Gant, Strander and Branche; Mayor Wheaton; City Manager Herman; Finance Director Helmick; City Attorney Robison; Robina Quale-Leach, 422 Darrow Street; Reverend Fred Alexander, 208 Watson Street and Jay Loomis, 101 East Evert Street, Homer.

Council consensus was reached to direct City Manager Herman and staff to further research the feasibility of undertaking four consecutive 1-year $500,000 projects with each focusing on repairing/replacing problematic sidewalk sections as needed in a specific quadrant of the City.

    IV.   ADJOURNMENT

Krause moved, Branche supported, CARRIED, to adjourn the study session.  (6-0, rcv).

Mayor Wheaton adjourned the study session at 8:24 p.m.
