BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT

AUTHORITY BOARD

 Purpose

To facilitate the implementation of Brownfield Plans relating to the identification and treatment of environmentally distressed (functionally obsolete and/or blighted) areas so as to promote revitalization within the municipal limits of Albion.

 

Establishment

The Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA) was established by resolution of the Council dated December 4, 2000.  The statutory authority for its formation is the provisions of Act 381 of the Public Acts of the State of Michigan 1996, as amended.  Using the provisions allowed under the Act, the EDC Board has been designated as the governing board of the BRA by the Council.  Both are further regulated by bylaws, approved by the Council, which do not require residency in the City for appointment.

 

Membership Residency
Not less than nine members, no more than three of which may be City officers or City staff.  Ex-officio, nonvoting members: President of the Chamber of Commerce, Sheridan Township Supervisor, Albion Township Supervisor.  Appointed by Mayor with confirmation by City Council At the discretion of appointing authority.  Goal is maintain a majority of residents on the board.

 

Term Meetings Compensation
Six years. Second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 a.m. None
