Retirement Plans: ADPS has its own Public Safety Pension Fund under Act 345. Currently Officers pay 4% into the pension fund with 2% of the 4% earmarked for pre-funding health care for retirees in case the pension fund cannot afford to pay for retiree health care. Our pension fund is only one of few across the nation that pre-funds for health care costs for retirees! Our pension fund is currently over 150% funded and is among the top 5% in the nation for funding levels! Our Officers have to work at ADPS for 25 years without any age requirement to be eligible for retirement. We currently have a 2.6% multiplier that averages together with the best 3 out of 5 of your last years here to figure out what your payout is. Our pension system is just about the best you will find out of any department in the State of Michigan. ADPS also offers an additional 457k plan that the employee pays into for additional retirement funds. Dispatchers at ADPS contribute into the Michigan Employee Retirement System (MERS) the same 4% that the Officers do. Their plan is known as a B-3 plan with Option 55 which means they too only require 25 years of service regardless of age. Dispatchers only contribute 2% of their pay into the MERS retirement plan.
